I have been wrestling with a question for the past few weeks. Why should I blog? I know that blogging is very popular. I have a friend that will remain nameless but she tells me all the time about the different blogs that she has been reading. Apparently, people blog about everything. For me, I had to figure out what was the reason for this blog. Is it to simply say that I have a blog? Is it to have something on the website? Is it a place to provide information. For me, none of these reasons justify continuing to blog. I have never done anything simply to impress someone (at least almost never). I could have other things on the website. After all, there are alot of websites that don't include a blog. As for information, I am also aware that there are alot of other places that would do a better job at providing information. So, what is the reason? That is the question that I have been struggling with. I finally realized that I am going to use this blog to discuss what I am learning about God. Lately...
I have been telling myself that I need to write down my experiences in watching God bring together this new church. Everyday I see God working in the lives of the people that He is bringing into my path. I see God providing in ways that I never imagined possible. At the same time, my wife is reminding me that my blog on the website is outdated. So, I figure I can use this as a record of watching God and learning about God.
Right now, I am learning about God's ability to offer calmness. I don't know about you but life often seems to spiral out of control and I get caught up in trying to get my kids to the right places and still have a somewhat functioning household. Throw in the fact that we are starting this new church and life is certainly chaotic. Yet, in the midst of it all, I am experiencing a surreal feeling of peace. We have so much to do and yet God is flooding me with a confidence in His ability to be faithful. In our culture, peace is often thought of as the absence of any conflict (as if peace is only found when everything is perfect and going smoothly.) I don't know too many people that don't have stress coming from some direction - family, work, finances, relationships, just to mention a few. What I have come to understand is that God offers a different kind of peace. It is a peace that allows me not to fear the present or the future and allows me to remain joyful even in the midst of all the chaos that life throws at us.
