Slow Down

I was reading a book the other day titled The Life You've Always Wanted and the author talked about the disease of hurriedness. As the author detailed some of the characteristics, I realized that I suffered from them all. Do you ever find yourself choosing a particular line in the grocery store and then watching the other lines to determine if you made the right decision? I do. I actually make it a competition as if the other person is even aware that we are in a contest. Another characteristic of this disease is to change lanes frequently in order to save a few seconds during your drive. I thought everyone did that.

As I read this book, I wondered - how do you slow down? In a culture that crams everything and more into a day, how do I intentionally create more time to stop. Being honest, I actually even questioned whether the author was correct. Why do I need to slow down? Then, I was reading this morning in the Book of Psalms where David says that the heavens tell of God's awesomeness and that we can see God's marvelous craftsmanship in looking at the skies. Just this morning, I went out to walk my puppy (Reeses) and we saw the sun rise and the winds were blowing and I was able to slow down long enough to be amazed.
