I went to a rock concert last night. Well, it was actually a Third Day Concert (which is a Christian rock band) but the feel is quite the same. Something happened toward the end of the show that reminded me of just how much our culture is changing. Did you ever go to a rock concert in the past where everyone held up a lit lighter? I used to go to alot of Pink Floyd and ACDC concerts and I have held my lighter high. But last night, no one held up lighters. Instead...

We went out last weekend and gave away dozens of free Krispy Kreme doughnuts at various intersections around town. First of all, for me to give away Krispy Kreme doughnuts was a big deal. But, that is not the point. You would not have believed the way people reacted to FREE DOUGHNUTS. Many of the people would simply shake their head and pass on by. Some would stop and accept the gift. Most questioned why on earth we would give anything for free. My favorite reaction was the lady who placed her hand to the side of her face to ensure that we would never make eye contact. Why do we do that? Why is it so hard for us to accept that anything is free?

I was reading a book the other day titled The Life You've Always Wanted and the author talked about the disease of hurriedness. As the author detailed some of the characteristics, I realized that I suffered from them all. Do you ever find yourself choosing a particular line in the grocery store and then watching the other lines to determine if you made the right decision? I do. I actually make it a competition as if the other person is even aware that we are in a contest. Another characteristic of this disease is to change lanes frequently in order to save a few seconds during your drive. I thought everyone did that.
